Many employers incorrectly believe that all salaried employees are exempt employees, or that paying an employee a salary automatically classifies them as exempt employees.  Exempt status has little to do with the method of payment or  job title, but has more do with level of responsibility.  For example, a Business Development Manager, classified as exempt, whose primary responsibility is sending out notices to its clients is likely to be incorrectly classified as Exempt.  Representatives from U.S.Labor Wage & Hour Division will discuss the rules that define the difference between Exempt and Non-exempt status.
