SHRM Guam is committed to supporting our veterans by facilitating their successful transition into the civilian workforce and recognizing the exceptional skills they bring from their military experience. We invite you to attend our next Breakfast Briefing titled 'Veterans First: Navigating Transition and Achieving Excellence in the Civilian Workforce.'
We will kick off the briefing with a special presentation by Dan Estephan, Case Manager and Darren Okada, Outreach Specialist, both from WestCare Pacific Islands, where you will discover the Path to Freedom program and how it empowers veterans to secure meaningful employment, and gain insights into the program's processes, demographic data, and the extensive support provided to both veterans and their employers, including Wage Subsidy services. Additionally, you will hear a powerful testimonial from a local veteran whose life has been transformed by the program.
Following this presentation, we will delve into the Jobs for Veterans Act, which ensures priority of service for covered veterans and eligible spouses in various Employment and Training programs funded by the US Department of Labor. Therese Camacho, Employment Program Administrator from Guam Department of Labor's American Job Center, will provide insights into how this priority affects service provision and discuss the considerable benefits of hiring veterans. In this section, you will:
- Learn how the Jobs for Veterans Act prioritizes eligible veterans and spouses for employment, training, and placement services funded by the Department of Labor.
- Explore the advantages of hiring veterans, including their leadership, adaptability, teamwork, and strong work ethic, to enhance organizational culture and performance.
- Learn how to access and leverage local and federal resources, such as HireGuam and OFCCP, to attract, hire, and retain veterans in your organization.
Don't miss this opportunity to understand and embrace the value veterans bring to the civilian job market. We look forward to seeing you there!
No refunds will be issued after the event.
